Tired of having to depend on professional car wash centers and facilities to keep your car gleaming? Here are some tips on how you can wash your car in your own garage.

The first thing you need to do is to gather everything that you need in washing your vehicle. You will need two buckets, a car shampoo, at least two sponges, a separate cleaning product for your tires, a lot of un-abrasive cloth rags, and a water hose (remove the nozzle as this would create too strong a water force).

Before you start lathering your car wit the cleaning solution, rinse the whole car with water. This would help remove hard debris that may cause scratches on the car’s body. Position your car in the shade so that the sunlight will not dry your car up leaving water marks on the body.

When washing your car, use a mild car compatible cleaning solution and mix it wit water. The more suds you produce, the better it would be for your car’s body since it would provide the maximum protection when you start sponging it clean. Rinse the sponge often in a separate bucket. When soaping, move the sponge in one direction only to avoid creating marks afterwards from the soap that you used.

In rinsing the car, use the hose without the nozzle and let the water flow smoothly over the car. Wash one area of the car at a time, starting at the top and working your way around the whole car. You do this to avoid having to sponge the car all over again because of the dried up cleaning suds in other areas because of the time you left it as is.

Your wheels and tires need a separate cleaning agent since that area is where the most dirt accumulates. Usually, the agent used for mags have to be generically appropriate for any type of finish so you need to read the labels carefully. Also, the cleaning solutions may darken rags so you will need to have a separate cloth for washing your wheels and tire.

When drying your vehicle, you will need soft, lint-free rags and another sponge. You use the sponge to absorb excess water so that the cloth wouldn’t have to be wrung too frequently. Instead of pulling and pushing the rag throughout your vehicle, use a blotting action to dry off your car.

Your windshields and mirrors would need a different tactic although you can use the same cleaning solution that you used for the body of your vehicle. You will need another lint free rag for windshield and mirrors. Also, you need to use a squeegee for the windshield to avoid unsightly water streaks. After lathering and rinsing off you windshield, place the squeegee at the center of the front windshield and drag it to the side then pull it down. Wipe off the edge of the squeegee with a rag before repeating the process. Do the other side in the same manner. For your side windshield, you can pull the squeegee down and wipe the edge before repeating the method.
